NEW FOR 2025: PastelS For Adults
Introduction to working with pan pastels
Most folks are familiar with pastels. The generally come in a stick form that's either round or square, in range of very soft to hard. These are what some people call "chalk" but that just helps distinguish them from oil pastels, which are a bit reminiscent of crayons, but oil based rather than wax. And, yes, pastels are chalky and messy by nature, which some people love about them and others find it offputting.
But now there's something new to the market: PanPastels. As described on the company's website:
"PanPastel© Colors are professional artists’ quality soft pastel colors packed in a unique pan format (cake-like). Their special qualities mean that artists can blend and apply pastel (dry) color like paint for the first time. They are made using a unique manufacturing process requiring minimal binder and fillers, resulting in rich, ultra soft and super-blendable colors that have all been tested for lightfastness and are fully erasable."
In this new introductory course, you will learn how to apply pan pastels using special tools. Color mixing and color theory are included as well as some basic drawing practice. You'll also work with pastel pencils for detailing. During the 6-week course, you'll complete several small pastel paintings.
