You can make a difference in a child's life with the
"Friends of Linda" CHILDREN'S Art scholarship Program
Linda has always had a passion for giving children who are sincerely interested in art an opportunity to take classes to learn and hone their skills. Many families have the resources to cover the costs involved. But for many others, the financial burden is too much and they have to forego it.
LENDING A HELPING HAND
In order to provide the chance for these children to explore art and to nurture their creative spirits, Linda has created a special scholarship program for students who qualify to enroll at Casa de Linda Art Studio at reduced rates. But we could use a little help. You are invited to be a part of the "Friends of Linda" Art Scholarship Program.
WHAT WE ARE NOT AND WHAT WE ARE
Casa de Linda is owned by Linda Calvert Jacobson and does NOT have any non-profit or 501(c)3 status. Since you will not get a tax write off, donations to "Friends of Linda" need to just come from the heart. This is much like a GoFundMe or Kick Starter program. Funds will be used to pay instructors, buy supplies and cover any multitude of various overhead expenses as the funds are awarded in the form of scholarships through out the year with special emphasis to the Summer Art Camp program AT Casa de Linda Art Studio.
HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU GIVE?
Any amount is welcome and greatly appreciated. Linda and her husband, David, will also contribute toward the scholarships in the form of a special discount and families will be asked for a small co-pay, which ensures that they take the opportunity seriously and can take pride in knowing that they they have participated financially. Since we are just now starting our new program in Wimberley, the focus will be on scholarships for the Summer Art Camp program. Each award will be based on the family's financial need, the child's interest and recommendations from teachers, counselors, etc. The average award will be $100 to sponsor a child for a 3-day camp (full price for a 4-day camp is $149; the balance will be covered by Linda and a small co-pay from the child's family). Of course, any gift in any amount is welcome and greatly appreciated.
HOW THE AWARDS WILL BE MADE
Scholarship awards will be based on a combination of:
1. The child's sincere interest in art;
2. The family's special financial circumstances; and
3. Recommendations from teachers, counselors, etc.
Applications will be available at a later date.
BE A PART OF SOMETHING WONDERFUL!

The story behind our Children's Scholarship Program...
When Casa de Linda Art Studio relocated from New Braunfels to Wimberley this Spring, owner Linda Calvert Jacobson wanted to be sure that certain programs and traditions would continue at the new location.
“For the last 12 years, we offered a summer art camp program from our studio that was located upstairs in a space I rented from the New Braunfels Art League Gallery,” Jacobson said. “When we decided to move the studio to Wimberley, we knew that offering art camps here would be a top priority.”
In addition to making the art camps available in Wimberley, Jacobson also wanted to ensure that another program would continue as well.
“Many years ago, we were fortunate to have some individuals make donations to the art league that were earmarked toward scholarships for children who wanted to enroll in our camps but whose families could not afford to cover the full tuition,” Jacobson explained. She added that in addition to the donations, she and her husband, David would offset some of the costs themselves so that funding could benefit as many students as possible.
“While we no longer qualify for funding from or through NBAL, we have had several people who wanted to help us find a way to continue to offer scholarships at the new studio,” she said. “Thanks to gifts made to a new program that we’ve created called the ‘Friends of Linda’ scholarship program, we’ve been able to do just that.”
The first and most substantial gift came from a former student, Don Staats, who studied painting with Jacobson for two years before passing away this March.
“The last time I was able to visit with Don in rehab he gave me an envelope that was from him and his wife, Norma. He told me I could use the money toward scholarships or however I saw fit. While it was not a huge sum, it was enough to help us get our scholarship program up and running this summer,” she said.
A few months later, Norma Staats contacted Jacobson and said that her husband also wanted to donated his art supplies to her program. This additional donation provided some of the paints and brushes that Jacobson would have otherwise needed to purchase for the summer program.
“Between the cash gift from Don and a few others, and the donation of art supplies, combined with contributions from my husband and myself, we were able to launch our Summer Art Camp Scholarship Program at our new studio this year,” Jacobson said.
When additional gifts are made to the program, Jacobson will be able to increase the number of scholarships that will be awarded, she said. Donations may be made through a special link on her website, http://www.casadelinda.com/donate.html or by emailing [email protected] or calling 830-221-7676.
